Education

I think what everyone is saying about education is important, but I think more is needed than childhood education. Krista said you had to "start form the very beginning with the children", I do not agree with this. While I do think that children have the greatest potential to change the future of racism and racial divides in this country I think our government also needs to do more to help those who are already disadvantaged by their lack of education in their childhood.

I think there needs to be a concentrative effort of state and federal agencies to work on expanding the adult education opportunities for those in our society who are struggling so their can be more of a hope of economic movement and prosperity. I think much of the racial issues in today's society have strong roots in economic disadvantages. I believe if the government begins to bring more opportunity for the low socio-economic classes in today’s society than the much of the racial divides which we discussed in class could begin to blur.

I know we talked a lot about the government apologizing to the African Americans for slavery but I still think this would be no more than a publicity stint, which would lack the depth and meaning that a tragedy as large as American slavery deserves and requires. Let them take the money for repatriations and the energy put into discussing whether or not the make a formal apology and begin to apologize with their actions.

Educate the children who will change the future, and educate those adults who currently are with out hope so their future too might be changed.

peace,

julia
