King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba

This is a picture depicting King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba, I thought it would add some flavor to my post, which is found under Ethiopia.

I enjoyed reading the myth of King Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. The Queen is portrayed as a strong female who can hold her own against the King. One of the aspects that struck me the most from reading the story was seeing how interconected everything was. Portions of this myth have been incorporated into the Old Testament, Ethiopian history, and the Queen of Sheba has even become a modern day symbolic figure. For example, when I was a younger girl and I would wear anything extravagant (for a little girl) my father would always say that I looked like the Queen of Sheba. I read an article that gave some historical background and perspective to the myth and it spoke about how the purpose of the meeting between the two figures has been debated. Some have reported that the two had sexual relations whereas others say that the meeting had nothing to do with Queen Sheba's admiration for the king, and was only an attempt to set up a trade network. Regardless of why the meeting happened I think that modern societies can learn a lot from these two characters and their interactions.
